Devil's Play

Devil's Play

Sage and I, two hundred and forty one miles from home, conjuring fires on the eve of the summer solstice, leaving nothing but concentric rings of blackened carbon in the sand, lasting for a night and day at most, footprints disrupting wind weathered rivulets, a vast expanse of nothingness, our purgatory, a simultaneous heaven and hell, rejecting our innocence, pious pollution, patterning the ivory earth

Sinner’s paradise, catharsis and courtship, to release, to surrender, sand scraping bare skin, nakedness and nude bondage, disbelievers in full faith and blindly following, constriction and consummation, earth reflecting and eyes watering, ash swirling and throats choking, pursuit of paganism, demonic devotion to the dark arts, a dance with the Devil, child's play on the Devil’s day
