My first runway of the season was already making overt political statements through its composition and construction, marrying the retro funk of 90s fashion with 2017 aesthetics, both decades being influenced by political turmoil. Nicholas K’s mirrored eyewear and swinging hoops were a call to action (you know what they say, the bigger the hoops the badder the b****), its pockets on pockets preached functionality, the slouchy draping against reflective metallics brought contrasting ideas of sensuality. The collection had an earthiness to its golden and orange hues, the vermilion like crushed spices. Militant details, cargo-inspired layering, and knotting were consistently on display throughout the outerwear, gold foil coats and waxed parkas alike. The finishing touches, swaying shark tooth septums and crushed velvets, were a last show of extravagance and what we’ve come to love from Kunz.
Thank you to the Nicholas K team, it was a pleasure.
