Supima’s 7th Annual Design Competition featured 6 contestants vying for 10,000, awarded on the basis of creativity, vision, and design expertise in crafting an evening gown collection made solely with Supima Cotton's fabrics. The money is intended to jump-start the career of one of these hopefuls, by funding their first major collection. Under the guidance of designer Bibhu Mohapatra, the contestants turned their conceptual sketches into expertly crafted designs, each contestant reimagining what "evening gown" meant to them. The winner, Jeffrey Taylor, went a classic route by choosing to create more traditional ball gowns, but pushed them to new territory with his use of pattern and tailoring around the bust.
I’ve included my personal favorites from the show as well as Taylor's entire collection. Congratulations to the winner and all the contestants for such inspiring first collections. Keep hustling!
